So . . . who's on first? ;-) (Are you familiar with that old Abbott and Costello "No, WHAT's on first!" comedy routine?) Kind of CRAZY about all the time zone calculations! But we love having our new, big, digital clock in the kitchen, set to NZ time . . . even if I still can't quite get my brain around what I see on it--that when I'm headed to bed around 1 a.m.-ish on a Monday, you're already (around 7 p.m.-ish) heading into the wrap-up of your Tuesday! Strange!!! By the way, the Fish Market web site looks really interesting. I assume you saw that they offer classes? Do you suppose you could learn to make sushi?! You'll have to let us know how especially the baby octopus goes--the cooking and the eating. As always, fun to "hear your voice." XOXOX

Hey, does NZ observe Halloween? And, if so, in April? I'm excited to have trick-or-treaters for the fist time in 19 years! Candy is bought and ready!

The fish market seems to be a fascinating place. I like the idea of fish in chili sauce over noodles, but I don't have enough courage to try the kind of fish you had (except shrimp).

If NZ is 8 hours earlier a day later than MI, then NZ ought to be 7 hours earlier and a day later than NE. So, when it's 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday in Omaha, it's 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in Aukland. Is that right?

Hey, nice pic. Don't you find it a little strange that you went to a place called a fish market and you didn't buy any FISH! You would have liked the Skip-Jack Tuna or the monkfish (Chilean seabass). Do you know where the prawns came from? I wonder if they are imported or aquacultured. (FYI…A marine biologist once told me that a prawn is the freshwater version of shrimp) So is it cold there? I see you in your Michigan State sweatshirt (or Ohio State, whatever). Also, where are the Tahiti pics? Our Halloween candy bowl was just stolen off our porch...I gotta go!

Clara,
NZ is now 6 hours earlier (and a day later) than MI. So it would be 5 hours earlier than NE. Right now it is 6:29pm, Wednesday NZ time. I believe it is 11:29pm, Tuesday in Omaha

Adam,
We did actually buy some fish, but I forget what kind it was. I have no idea where the prawns came from, but I think they fish them locally. There is actually a theme park here called prawn world or something. I also saw a sign in the harbor saying they did not advise catching prawn there because of a sewer pipe near by. I thought prawn was the same thing as a shrimp...

As far as weather, it is all in centigrade. The highs are normally around 17. The days are normally pretty nice, maybe a tad chilly. You would be cold for sure. The nights get a little cold. There is lots of wind and rain.

It's actually quite strange, the weather here changes all the time. It will be dark and rainy, and 15 minutes later it will be sunny, and then 15 minutes later it will be dark and rainy again. We are headed into summer though, so the days should be getting warmer.

We went to an asian food court downtown for lunch. I got a large sushimi and sushi plate with soup for $12NZD.

Peg,
They have Halloween here, October 31st. There were some trick or treaters and some people dressed up. I don't think it is as big as it is in the US though.
