These are really great! I’ve been to a few butterfly houses…they have one on Mackinac Island and one at the Detroit Zoo, but I’ve never taken pictures like these.

Reiman Gardens Butterfly House in Ames (not far from Grandpa’s house and the football stadium)–small but marvelous. Nanna was there once, not long after it was created and not long before she went into the Care Center. She was enthralled with them. I don’t know if you remember how much Nanna liked even the symbol of the butterfly. I believe she had a suncatcher butterfly in her window (but I could be imagining that). She loved their color, among other things. She would have loved your photos, that you were in such an adventurous and special place, and that you made it possible for us to see them. Nice, Josh! Yes the butterflies were amazing- they were just flying all around you. I think this was my favorite place in Penang. Josh did an amzing job photographing.. and meanwhile I had left my camera at the hotel! Thanks for enjoying the photos!! We miss you guys!

WOW! Beautiful!! My favorite butterfly is the very top one. Amazing creatures. I was watching a time-lapse video the other day of butterflies emerging from their cocoons. Wow! How does that happen? Wonderful. Thousands of butterflies! Sounds much larger than Reiman Gardens in Ames – but maybe you’ve never been there. Thanks!

I still can’t get over them. Each one is just magnificent. All that fascinating detail. Hard to fathom. Really like the mirror-like image in the fifth photo. And the subtlety of that hint of pale blue in the second photo. Mind boggling.

My eyes were big as saucers when I opened this post. Did you really take all these? They look straight out of a high-quality field guide. Dad will be excited!
