Dad, we ate a whole bunch of stuff in Singapore. I can’t even begin to recount it all. Well I suppose I could begin. When we first got there I had some crayfish. It was a bit different (smaller and flat head) than I am used to, but very good. For breakfast we had some proti bread (sp?) with curry, some prawn in some rice wrapping. We also went out for a big dinner one night and had the chili crab which was very good! We had a pepper crab too. We also ate a nice dinner at an Indian restaurant.

It seems about half our meals have come from food stalls and food courts full of stalls, while the other half from restaurants. The stalls are super cheap and just as good if not better, but the restaurants are more accommodating for western peoples who can have trouble ordering .

Let’s see… where to begin. No photos of us doing Tai Chi. At first it seemed a bit funny, but the people doing it were very friendly and it felt good, especially after being up all night (less a couple of uncomfortable hours sleeping on our budget flight with Tiger Airways). Fiona *might* have a photo of us. I will see.

The dusk photo was at ISO 800 because it was so dark, there wasn’t much natural light and a flash wouldn’t work. Because it was taken from a car, and not on land with a tripod, a lower ISO would have left the shutter open a long time and it would have been more blurry than I wanted. A bit of the blur looks good I think. Glad you like it.

Oh, ya, I meant to ask: Did you have a hard time not laughing when you were doing the Tai Chi? Or maybe you really got into it with the seriousness they do. Now THAT I would also love to see a photo of–you and Beth doing Tai Chi! How’d you do with it?

I love the dusk photo. All of them, but especially the dusk. I see you have the ISO at 800. I haven’t experimented yet with different ISO settings, but I’m glad to check out the settings you use and am so glad you have them included. I don’t comment with all of your postings, but I do look at the EXIF info, photos and comments with every recent posting. Thank you.
I will live vicariously through you about the Tai Chi. I would be so inhibited and not brave enough to join in and try it. Is Tai Chi something you’ve partaken in before? As is your dad, I’m interested in pics of the food, too.

Thanks for posting these pictures and describing what you’re seeing. Singapore is a very populous place and has very modern buildings (even very modern street lights); however, I imagine you’ll see a variety of scenery during your visit. Is that Beth (blonde hair, black book bag) walking along the sidewalk?

Local foods are diverse, ranging from Hainanese chicken rice to satay. Singaporeans also enjoy a wide variety of seafood including crabs, clams, squid, and oysters. One such dish is stingray barbecued and served on banana leaf with sambal or chili.

Amongst locals, popular dishes include bak chor mee, mee pok, sambal stingray, laksa, nasi lemak, chili crab and satay. All of which, can be found at local hawker centres around Singapore.

Thanks! Glad to see a bit of what you’re seeing! Don’t know much about Singapore so it’s all new to me. Tai Chi before breakfast in the park sounds like the right time to do it. So what sorts of asian foods are you eating? Are there like sidewalk vendors? restaurants?

The Singapore Merlion. From wikipedia:
