From Perth we took a ferry down the river and then out into the Indian Ocean to Rottnest Island. As you do on Rottnest Island we rented bicycles and rode around the island stopping to enjoy various bays, beaches, and the local wildlife – namely quokkas (small marsupials found only on Rottnest).

Where’s the pictures of the quokkas??? ;^)

And what does the name of the island mean? “Worstest” or “a rotting nest”? Keep having a great time!!!

Oh, my gosh, I’m salivating over the photos! The colors in the second are out of this world. (And love your composition of the curving, left-hand spit. (Maybe I shouldn’t mention “salivating” and “spit” in the same three lines? ;-) (I originally thought of “drooling over the photos,” but that doesn’t improve the “high-humidity” content any! ;-) ) Ha! And that first photo: oooohhhhhhhh wwwwooooowwwww. It could be in their travel literature and on half the walls of the world! Love the combination of gorgeous scenery (stationary) and the bikes which communicate movement–going somewhere–probably somewhere wonderful! And that the travelers aren’t in cars! Very . . . European-looking? Or something like that. Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm! XOXOX

Good heavens! How did I miss that boat in the photo?!? (Rhetorical question. ;-) ) It looks small–farther away than I would have thought. Must be a pretty large bay. That comment’s sort of neither here nor there; I’m just surprised I didn’t see it till I came back to the site again . . . a whole five minutes later. ;-)

Supposedly when the Dutch first landed on Rottnest Island (I guess they discovered it?) they thought the Quokkas were rats. Rottnest I believe is Dutch for rat nest. Sounds lovely doesn’t it?

Mom, your comments are funny :) . It would certainly be interesting if my photos were on half the walls in the world lol. I’m not sure I even really noticed the boat in the photo until you pointed it out. It wasn’t actually that far out… not that big of a boat. We were swimming about halfway to it. The water felt great after a hot bike ride.

And photo of quokka coming up in 3…2…1…
