Yesterday was ANZAC Day. It was a great one – my first paid public holiday. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, and is a day to remember the veterans who have died, specifically a large number of Australians who were killed fighting the Turks for Brittain in 1915. Traditionally they hold a dawn (4:30am) memorial service and play trumpets and things. Needless to say, we didn’t make it to that but did walk down the beach to see the war memorial. It seems like every town has it’s own remembrance area, and Parkdale is no different.

After spending the morning in the sun, we went to the bakery and got some fresh breakfast foods (doughnuts, cakes, and pies :D ). We ate them down by the beach along with a couple of Beth made espressos. The weather was great (about 25C), but will be getting cold again soon. It has cooled down today and is monsooning at the moment. Meant to be a high of only 8C on Monday.

After filling our bellies, we headed back inside and turned on the Tiger’s game and started in on brewing our first Australian beer (not an Australian style beer!). We have both brewed at home and enjoy the process (and results), but this is the first we have been able to do it here. We brewed a brown ale, which we have named ANZAC Brown. It should be ready to bottle in a couple of weeks when I get back. Can’t wait!

oops, someone spilled on the rug
