Squeaky Beach
Squeaky Beach at Wilson’s Promontory – Victoria, Australia

A few weeks back, Beth’s friend Becky came to visit. One weekend the three of us drove a few hours south-east of Melbourne and camped at Wilson’s Promontory, a large peninsula shaped nature reserve and park. I had never heard of a promontory, but according to dictionary.com:

1. a high point of land or rock projecting into the sea or other water beyond the line of coast; a headland.
2. a bluff, or part of a plateau, overlooking a lowland.
3. Anatomy. a prominent or protuberant part.

I *don’t* know what protuberant means.

The photo is of Squeaky Beach. One such beach/bay at Wilson’s Prom. The beach got its name from the sand, which squeaked when you walked on it. It creeped me out and I wanted to leave to find a non-squeaky beach.

As always it was great to get out of the city, and ‘The Prom’ as it’s called was excellent. There was tons of wildlife – even a camp wombat who repeatedly tried to get into our tent while we were sleeping. Supposedly if you leave food in your tent they have been known to tear through the tent to get at it.

The weather was about the best we have had to date. I got my monthly fitness walks in, and the girls had a swell time. Hooray Prom.

Looks pretty! Squeaky Beach – “sounds” interesting! Did they explain why it’s squeaky? The sand has a certain composition or something?

Glad you’re learning new words! As for protuberant – a potato is a tuber (or a swelling), so think of something shaped like a potato that sticks out in front of (or before) what it’s a part of. And the next time you hear someone say “potatoes are swell” it will have a deeper meaning to you.

WOW! Before I even read your post, I just have to say I kept saying, “Ohhhhh! Ohhhhh!” when I saw the picture. Gorgeous! XOXOX

“Read” as in present tense. I haven’t read it yet. Will not. ;-)

Oops, “NOW”, not “not.”

Great that you made the trip happen and were able to get out of the city some (rather than just sitting around wishing it would happen–you’re about the best person I know at that, Josh!) And glad that the weather and “Prom” were excellent–wombats and all! It feels so great when a trip works out like that. Awesome, Josh! And Beth! XOXOX

Your photograph is absolutely lovely–at least as good, maybe even better than any professional photograph. I’m glad the three of you got to spend time at the preserve/park.

You’ve probably heard of Promontory Point in northern Utah where the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads met and the Golden Spike was driven in 1869.
