laptopless in auckland

Sunday, 15 October 2006 : Filed under: Auckland E-Mail This Article

The good news is we made it to Auckland. The bad news is that today when I was finally downloading some baseball games to watch, and was about to update this site with a bunch of entries and photos, my laptop died. I have no idea why, but will be taking it to get serviced tomorrow.

More later, hopefully soon when the laptop gets fixed.

Yay! You made it to NZ! :-) Fun to hear from you after all those days. Bummer about your laptop. (But liked your “laptopless in auckaland” title. Clever.) Our lips are sealed about the Tigers; let us know when you’ve watched the games. Hugs to Beth!

Luv,
Mom

I took the laptop to a computer repair place I found on the other side of Auckland, in a place called Royal Oak. Looks like the motherboard is fried, which is no good. They actually had another guy come in with a very similar computer and the same motherboard with the same problem.

The good news is that it should be fixed in three or four days, and I can watch eight tigers games in a row. The bad news is that it will cost me about $700 (That is about $500 US dollars). Laptop was just out of waranty by a couple of months. I have no idea what caused it. I will be able to upload lots of pics and trip reports from Tahiti when I get it back.

Until then it is a local internet cafe for me. There is actually one by our place (http://www.brownkiwi.co.nz/) that is in a convienience store. About 20 computers and 3$ per hour. Not so bad.

I will reply to emails later, I gotta go.

Every day I call about my laptop they tell me it will be another couple of days. hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow. Today Beth and I went downtown to an Irish pub to watch the Tigers beat the Cardinals to tie the World Series 1-1. Two friends from the Brown Kiwi, Courtney and Cerys joined us for the game. Cerys is from the UK and Courtney is from Detroit. It was fun to watch the games with another Tigers fan even if we are in Auckland and the game starts at 1pm.

Today is Labor Day in New Zealand, so everyone has off of work, but it has been raining all day. Tomorrow we will look for apartments in the City.
