Today we drove 40 minutes to Piha, a surf beach west of Auckland. I am not sure if it is technically in Auckland or not. The waves were enormous and the fishing was bad. The large rock you see in the picture is Lion Rock. Piha is the closest surf beach to Auckland. It is on the west coast of the North Island, and the west coast is where the big waves are.
