Our last night up north we stayed at a beautiful campground at the Kiwi Iwi lakes. These are three fresh water lakes that are supposedly good for catching trout and water sports. The campground was situated on a beach facing the sunset pictured above.

This is our last night in Auckland. We will be leaving in the morning for a long trip down south. I will try to keep things updated somewhat as we go. It will be Beth, her mother Sheryl, and myself making our way down south in the van. The van has been in the shop the last couple of days waiting on a replacement part for the steering column, which finally came in today. Yay! I am really excited to get out of the city and get on with seeing the rest of this beautiful island, and then on to the south island in a couple of weeks. Our final destination is Queenstown, at the bottom of the South Island, where we will spend the winter snowboarding on three different mountains.

Have a wonderful trip. It’s nice that Beth’s mother is with you. We’ll be looking for postings from along the way and certainly when you get to Queenstown. How long will it take you to reach Queenstown? I presume you have to look for housing there. Is there a ferry between the north and south islands? I have to keep in mind that May in Omaha is equivalent to October in New Zealand. Enjoy the rest of your time down under.

What a gorgeous photo! Somehow I missed it on the blog before.

It is going to take a long time to get to Queenstown. There is a ferry connecting the islands. I have heard it is very rough.
